Awards Season

Guys, I have exciting news to tell you about.   I’ve finally been recognized for my indescribable talents.  Allow me to provide some background information so that you can understand the significance of this.

Due to my near lack of participation in organized sports while growing up, I missed out on the opportunity to receive praise for a job well done (other than for getting good grades).  The only time I was part of an athletic team was when I played hockey at age 4 (and apparently age 5 based on the two different uniforms in the pictures below).  I would be willing to bet something valuable that this wasn’t my idea. Anyway, I didn’t have a clue what was going on during the hockey games.  I was more likely to spontaneously learn and perform a triple axel during the game than to ever come in contact with the puck. I was also the only girl on my team (no surprise there).

Hockey players love cats.

Hockey gear is not flattering.

When the time came to give out trophies after the hockey season was over, I was so excited!  I would finally have a beautiful plastic trophy to put on top of my dresser.  I imagined the trophy would make friends with all of the other trophies my brother and sister had won in their wildly successful athletic ventures.   I couldn’t remember contributing to my team in any meaningful way, so I thought that maybe I was being tricked or lied to about my impending recognition.  But then, my parents decided we would be making a trip to visit our family down in Texas.  Would you like to guess what happened next?  Correct.  The awards were distributed during my absence.  I never got my trophy (and I’m not sure why they couldn’t just give it to me later).  Since then, the desire to be given an award or trophy of some sort has been a dream of mine.

Ok, back to present day.  I have received two award nominations for my blog!  For those of you not familiar with the way blog awards work, here’s a quick run-down:

The awards process is equivalent to chain mail.  When someone receives a nomination, that person then nominates several others blogs for the award.  This continues and therefore, most bloggers have received at least one.  The term “nomination” is also a misnomer.  There isn’t a voting process to determine who wins.  Receiving the nomination means you’ve won.  It’s not actually that special.  But still, given my quest for an award, I’ve chosen to believe it’s similar to winning an Oscar.  Please, hold your applause.

I received the Liebster Award from mheretowrite.  Thank you mheretowrite!  Her blog is usually focused around providing reviews of music, books and movies.  Feel free to check out her blog:  Here to Write.

The rules for the Liebster Award say that I have to nominate 5 other blogs with less than 200 followers.  First of all, you might be wondering why I was given this award even though I have more than 200 followers.  At the time she gave me the award, I didn’t have very many followers (maybe 35ish?).  And, even though I’m told I currently have 573 followers, I’m not entirely sure that’s accurate, as most of those are Facebook followers and I don’t know that it’s even possible to follow me on Facebook.  Anyway, below are 5 blogs that I really enjoy.  I follow quite a few now, but these are my go-to’s.  Oh, and I’m not abiding by the “less than 200 followers” rule, mostly because I don’t have time to check how many followers each of them have and also because I’d rather just refer you to blogs I think you’ll enjoy as well.

The other award I received is the Versatile Blogger Award.  I received this from nitabrownsugah.  Thank you nitabrownsugah!  Her blog is about life in general, but with an optimistic twist.  She has an incredibly positive attitude and will probably help you appreciate the little things.  Here’s a link to her blog: nitabrownsugah.

The rules for this award say that I have to nominate 15 other blogs and to tell you 7 random things about myself.  I’m not going to list another 15 blogs.  I’m sorry.  I don’t have time.  However, I plan to list my favorite blogs on my home page (eventually), so that should cover this requirement.  Here are the 7 random facts about myself, which will likely come up in future blog posts.

  • I hate cookies.
  • I watched an entire 30-minute infomercial this morning. Yes, I’m ashamed.
  • I have 8 books sitting next to my bed, none of which have been finished (most haven’t even been started).
  • I plan to buy Amy Grant’s Christmas album today.
  • My washing machine just broke and I don’t know what to do about it.
  • When I’m in public, strangers often say bizarre things to me, none of which are solicited.
  • The bear is my least favorite animal and I wouldn’t be upset if they went extinct.

Thanks to everyone for reading my blog.  I also appreciate the comments and positive feedback over the past few months.  I’ve been very pleased with everyone’s commitment to not saying anything unless they have something positive to say (with the exception of one person who disliked a link to my blog.  They’re currently on my “People I’m not very fond of” list).  Anyway,  I’ll be going now.  I have to print out these awards and stick them on my fridge.  Take what you can get, right?
